An assassin’s loyalties are always in doubt.
But her heart never wavers.

After a year of hard labor in the Salt Mines of Endovier, eighteen-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien has won the king's contest to become the new royal assassin. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown – a secret she hides from even her most intimate confidantes.

Keeping up the deadly charade—while pretending to do the king's bidding—will test her in frightening new ways, especially when she's given a task that could jeopardize everything she's come to care for. And there are far more dangerous forces gathering on the horizon -- forces that threaten to destroy her entire world, and will surely force Celaena to make a choice.

Where do the assassin’s loyalties lie, and who is she most willing to fight for?

Review:

You know what. I wrote this awesome review that took me so long. Then, my laptop decided it would be hilarious to lose connection to the internet. Muahahaha, let’s see how funny it is to see Angela freak out hehehehh. No. Not. Funny. At. All. So here I am again...it will never be the same though T^T

Guys. I just finished this book. This amazing, spectacular, fantastic, great, excellent, marvellous, fabulous, wonderful, splendid book called Crown of Midnight. (I actually used a thesaurus to search up the words) I'm gonna die from its amazingness *dies*I can’t seem to leave this world, everything reminds me of this book, and I’m just so completely obsessed with it. Chaol. Sorry, be right back. Dying. Okay so like, my mind isn't clear right now and I’m unable to write a proper review. My thoughts aren't exactly readable you see. Take a look: (I sound like Ryan Higa :P)
asdfghjkl;qwertyuiopzxcvbnm,.asdfghjkl;qwertyuiop[]zxcvbnm,./asdfghjkl;wertyuiop[xcvbnm,.rtyuiopasdfghjkl;zxcvbnm,qwertyuiopasdfghjklzxcvbnm,qwertyuiop[asdfghjkl. You see? So this is basically going to be me rambling on and on about how much I loved this book. Ready? Alright, 1...2...3...

wHAT THE ACTUAL HECK OKAY CELAENA YOU CANT BLAME CHAOL THAT WASNT EVEN HIS FAULT PLEASE MAKE UP PLEASE I BEG YOU FORGIVE HIM T^T ITS THE FILTHY PIECE OF DOG POOP ARCHERS FAULT. GO AWAY ARCHER AND DIE. NO ONE LIKES YOU OR WANTS YOU HERE BYE. I KNEW AT THE BEGINNING THAT ARCHER WAS A LYING ROTTED PINEAPPLE (SORRY PINEAPPPLES, I ACTUALLY REALLY LIKE YOU) CELAENA YOU SHOULDVE LISTENED TO CHAOL AND TRUSTED HIM THAT ARCHER IS LIER BUT NOOOOOO LOOK WHATS HAPPENED NOW. NEHEMIA IS DEAD, YOUR RELATIONSHIP IS RUINED AND EVERYTHING IS A PILE OF MESS. IM SOMAD UGGHHHHH. OKAY YEAH I GET THAT NEHEMIA WAS A GREAT PERSON AND YOUR FRIEND BUT HONESTLY, GET ON AND FORGIVE CHAOL ALREADY. PLEEEAASE.

BUT DORIAN THOUGH. ARRRHHGG I FEEL SO BAD FOR HIM THROUGH THIS BOOK. HE HAS TO WATCH CHAOL AND CELAENA TOGETHER AND NOT SAY A WORD THAT’S PAINFUL MAN. BUT GEEZ, YOU SURE ARE DUMB SOMETIMES. BUT HEY, CELAENA WAS PRETTY DUMB THROUGHOUT THIS BOOK TOO. YOU KNOW, IF YOU JUST TOLD A SINGLE DANG PERSON AND LET THEM HELP YOU, YOU WOULDNT BE IN THE MESS RIGHT NOW. WHY DO YOU PEOPLE LOVE DEALING WITH EVERYTHING YOURSLEVES SERIOUSLY.STOP KEEP SECRETS FROM EACH OTHER IS THAT SO HARD?

I LOVE YOU CHAOL SO FREAKING MUCH LIKE YOURE THE BEST PERSON EVER. YOURE SO DEVOTED AND PERFECT AND EVERYTHING. LET ME LOVE YOOUUUUUUU. (IN THE MELODY OF THAT SONG) IF CELAENA EVER LEAVES YOU FOR DORIAN, ILL BE RIGHT HERE WAITING FOR YOUUUUU (ANOTHER SONG) YOURE SUCH A BIG TOUGHIE ON THE OUTSIDE BUT YOURE ACTUALLY A BIG SOFTIE ON THE INSIDE LIKE THE DANCE AND THE BIRTHDAY AND EVERYTHING WAS SO PEREFCT I WAS GONNA CRY. THE ENDING KILLLLLED ME SO MUCH. I DIDNT EVEN REALIZE I COULD BE KILLED SO MANY TIMES IN A BOOK. I LITTERALLY CANNOT RIGHT NOW. GOODBYE WORLD, IF ANYONE NEEDS ME, IM UNDER MY BED COUNTING SHEEP. BUT I PROBABLY WON’T ANSWER TO ANYONE SO DONT BOTHER. DONT EVEN BOTHER. LET ME BE IN PEACE AND IN MY OBLIVION COUNTING SHEEP. SARAH J. MAAS YOU HAVE RUINED ME. YOU HAVE SCARRED ME JUST LIKE THE SCAR ON CHAOLS FACE.

*tries to breathe calmly but fails* Alright. I’m done attacking this review with caps lock. aM I NOW YES I AM dONE. Ranting aside, this book was utter perfection. Everything was written extremely well, every part was necessary and essential. It made the book complete as a whole and wouldn't be without a single part. So. Great. This is the kind of book that makes me want to give up on my non-existent writing career. This ruined me and broke my heart into a gajibillion pieces. And I love IT. I’m so glad that this isn't a trilogy. It gives the characters more time to grow and there’s just so much to be told in this world. I cannot. Wait. For. The. Next. Book. The ending tore me in two. Celaena, please forgive Chaol. He did nothing wrong ;( well, that's as much of a review I can muster after reading this beautiful book. I’ll probably come back and add things later. For now, I’ll go count my sheep.

Sorry about this loooong review/ramble. I just needed to let  it all you know? So much needed to be said XD

Gerald Faust knows exactly when he started feeling angry: the day his mother invited a reality television crew into his five-year-old life. Twelve years later, he’s still haunted by his rage-filled youth—which the entire world got to watch from every imaginable angle—and his anger issues have resulted in violent outbursts, zero friends, and clueless adults dumping him in the special education room at school.

Nothing is ever going to change. No one cares that he’s tried to learn to control himself, and the girl he likes has no idea who he really is. Everyone’s just waiting for him to snap…and he’s starting to feel dangerously close to doing just that.

In this fearless portrayal of a boy on the edge, highly acclaimed Printz Honor author A.S. King explores the desperate reality of a former child “star” who finally breaks free of his anger by creating possibilities he never knew he deserved.

Review:

Well, this book just blew my mind. This book was such a fresh concept, I've never read anything like this before. I'm one of those people who barely watches television. I know, I know, I'm ashamed. But honestly, I don't know what to watch. And of the little I do watch, it never contains reality shows, so I have very little knowledge to it. But woooow, this was quite, memorable. It struck me in ways I haven't experienced and just knocked me over.

Gregory's family is the one of the most messed up families EVER. I almost punched someone because it was too frustrating to read about. Or maybe that was Gregory's influence. If you search "messed up", it would show a picture of Gregory's family. I wanted to bang his mom and his sister together in the head till they're unconscious (am i the only one who sees a different meaning to the above sentence? I don't know how to word it better...by 'bang' i mean smash..)

Reading inside the head of someone who's been emotionally traumatized from childhood was...interesting. The things he thought and how he sees the world was completely relatable. Maybe I'm crazy or something but I understand him. I feel him. That's one of the reasons I loved this so much.

Gregory's relationship with Hannah was so amazing. It wasn't like the mooshy smoochy stuff, it was so real and raw. It wasn't like just because they meet and fall in love they forget about their past, their mistakes and troubles. They still come out, and influence their relationship and shape it to be better in the end. <3

The story was also told in some flashbacks of the filming show days which I looked forward to but made me want to die, too. They were extremely frustrating but extremely interesting. The "nanny" was...weird. I don't know what else to call it. She had her moments, helping Gregory and knowing that Tasha was an evil, twisted girl. But then she'd act like an asshole. Like why.

This is another book that will stick with you for a long time. It will keep you  awake at night and maybe one day you're eating spaghetti and meatballs, you'll be like, "oh. Reality Boy." It makes you think, and feel.

Merry Christmas Eve ~

Aweehh, dang guys. Its almost Christmas Eve. Ha never mind it is Christmas Eve. But what a great time it must be for everyone else. I spent the evening in my room editing this blog and writing reviews. A great way to spend it huh? Definitely. Anyways, I hope everyone has a merry, merry Christmas and yeah that's all I got. Be nice kids, Santa doesn't like naughty children. Well, with the exception of Daemon Black of course ;D I'm just thankful to be home this Christmas. A few years ago, we were on vacation in Los Angeles and couldn't find food anywhere to eat since it was Christmas Eve and everywhere was closed. We didn't want to eat at our hotel (I don't even know man, I have strange parents) so we wandered the streets of Los Angeles for two hours looking for food until a cop came by and asked if we needed help. We said we wanted food. That was quite memorable dontcha think?

Golden boy Ezra Faulkner believes everyone has a tragedy waiting for them—a single encounter after which everything that really matters will happen. His particular tragedy waited until he was primed to lose it all: in one spectacular night, a reckless driver shatters Ezra’s knee, his athletic career, and his social life.

No longer a front-runner for Homecoming King, Ezra finds himself at the table of misfits, where he encounters new girl Cassidy Thorpe. Cassidy is unlike anyone Ezra’s ever met, achingly effortless, fiercely intelligent, and determined to bring Ezra along on her endless adventures.

But as Ezra dives into his new studies, new friendships, and new love, he learns that some people, like books, are easy to misread. And now he must consider: if one’s singular tragedy has already hit and everything after it has mattered quite a bit, what happens when more misfortune strikes?

Robyn Schneider’s The Beginning of Everything is a lyrical, witty, and heart-wrenching novel about how difficult it is to play the part that people expect, and how new beginnings can stem from abrupt and tragic endings.

Review:

This book practically radiates "mixed feelings" off of it, I'm not even kidding. Initial reaction to finishing was "wait, whaaaaaaat?" then "wtf." then "whaaaaaaaat?" I just can't excatly make up my mind about this.

For those who like contemporary, Merry Christmas! because you just found yourself the perfect book for the holidays. If you liked Eleanor and Park especially, read this. Because then you can be like "asdfghjkl what even is that ending why Eleanor/Cassidy" with me. Oops, was that a spoiler? Well she's not exactly like Eleanor. I liked Eleanor better. Go away Cassidy.

In all honesty, The Begining of Everything is a coming-of-age-book-that makes-you-discover-yourself-along-the-messed-up-ways-of-life type of book. As I was reading this, I felt like the shallow people that you were not supposed to sympathize with. I guess I need to work out some kinks in my brain and how I look at the world. It deals with the obnoxious popular jocks and their slutty girlfriends, the nerdy nerds and their debate club and a lot of other stereotypes. It's about figuring out who you are, where you belong, the long run in life, and first luuuuurve. Except it's not really first. Just the speed bumps-on-highway type of love.

I'm starting to keep my reviews short now, who's got time to read long ass reviews anyway? In conclusion, (this brings back memories of first learning how to write paragraphs, well that helped in the long run I suppose) this really was a great read. It's not that predictable, hence my confusion and madness at the end. The characters are well developed, no seriously. They change and reform and have tons of depth that I need a ladder. Cassidy was one of the most complex characters of them all, and basically, I'm just caught in her maze of thinking. Sometimes, I really I wanted to be like her. But it's just too dang hard yah know? The amazing life lessons cramped into a 300 page book are pretty impressive. Well, I'm just waiting for my own tragedy to strike. Though I'm starting to think that my whole life is already a tragedy. Oh goody, at least I need not to wait anymore. Not.

Told in a refreshingly genuine and laugh-out-loud funny voice, THIS SONG WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE is an exuberant novel about identity, friendship, and the power of music to bring people together

Review:

actual rating: 4.5 *SPOILER* only because she didn't end up with Char. Damn. Otherwise, FIVE FREAKING SHINING STARS. AMAZING. this is just so amazing this book. it's so cool, and the concept is brilliant. it makes me wanna go clubbing or something. oh wait, I'm underage. screw that lol. but seriously, this book made me take a whole new outlook on life. I love it so, so much. more thoughts tomorrow, after I get some sleep. I'm just flipping through the reviews and...THEY ARE ALL FIVE STARS, IM SO HAPPY ;D

Okay. I just reread this next day. I NEVER reread books. I read them already, why would I reread books when I can read new books? I don't know, that just my opinion. but this. This is just incredibly amazing AND OMG I LOVE IT SO MUCH. the second time reading was different from the first. The first time, I was more reading the story, the plot, characters and such. The second time though, I read it more carefully, and became more invested in the subplots, meanings and hidden messages. And it was probably even better than the first one. It resolved the "Char" problem. Nope, you asshole ain't cool. Harry is much better :) Aghhhhh just so, so great. I need to go and buy this book since this is a library copy. YAAAAY then I can read it everyday :D

psst. Char is like the same Char from Ella Enchanted. I think maybe that's why I liked him so much. Plus Ella Enchanted is the best book in the world. NO OTHER BOOK WILL EVER COMPARE. But there are the other favourites such as this :) The life changing favourites.

The above was my initial reaction to reading the book. Yeah I was pretty damn excited about it. Now after a few weeks, I STILL AM. See, that's what favourite books are. Even when you think about them, you feel all the feels and emotions of that book all over again. But now, after a few weeks of thinking and analyzing why I loved this book so much, I figured it out. This book gave me hope. I thought it was absolutely amazing how her world was so upside down, but then that night of wandering around led her to discover a whole world of acceptance, friends, a passion and even love. It gave me this feeling that honestly, anything can happen. Maybe its just a book, but to me, its much more. I'm allowed to dream right?

Anyways, I don't want to say too much. But here this, ASDFGHJLTDCUVIUIGHKJK go read this book right now or I'll find you and I'll murder you. We got a deal here?

At the conclusion of The Mark of Athena, Annabeth and Percy tumble into a pit leading straight to the Underworld. The other five demigods have to put aside their grief and follow Percy’s instructions to find the mortal side of the Doors of Death. If they can fight their way through the Gaea’s forces, and Percy and Annabeth can survive the House of Hades, then the Seven will be able to seal the Doors both sides and prevent the giants from raising Gaea. But, Leo wonders, if the Doors are sealed, how will Percy and Annabeth be able to escape?

They have no choice. If the demigods don’t succeed, Gaea’s armies will never die. They have no time. In about a month, the Romans will march on Camp Half-Blood. The stakes are higher than ever in this adventure that dives into the depths of Tartarus.

review:

*clap clap* Rick Riordon has done it again. Never fails to amaze. CLAPS FOR YOU. CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP.

House of Hades left me shell shocked. After I read the last page, I just stared at the acknowledgments for like, ten minutes. I couldn't BELIEVE it was over. ANOTHER WHOLE YEAR. THE FEELS ARE EVERYWHERE.

Okie dokes. So it's been what, twelve months since I read MoA. Truthfully, I forgot half the stuff that's happened. Also twelve months is a long, long time. And during that time, I've discovered many, many other great books and I sort of grew away from this series. It's still one of my favourites, obviously, but I wasn't counting down the days when HoH comes out. Sure, I was excited but it wasn't like like full on screaming till my head falls off. Despite all this, I still needed to read House of Hades as soon as it came out. I downloaded it but soon figured, my eyes will probably die after reading 600 pages. So I waited till I got my hand on the library copy, which was yesterday. And as you know, I finished it yesterday. Yup. It was unputadownable. That's a real word yo. It sucked me right back into this world, right back into the characters lives, RIGHT BACK INTO THIS FANDOM. wowowow.

There's so much stuff going through my head right now, it's hard to put them into words you know. I'll try my best. As you know, Percy and Annabeth fall into Tartarus. *dun dun duuuun* Great cliff hanger, Riordon. Just great. Leo, Jason and the rest of the team travel to save Percy and Annabeth, to the House of Hades, while Percy and Annabeth go on a not-so romantic vacation through Tartarus. Seriously, it's not a place you'll want to go on vacation. Basic plot line. Throw in some ugly, wretched monsters, some good plot twists and you've got HoH. During this book, we discovered much more about the characters, the prophecy and just so much more stuff. Unputadownable I say.

Oh man, I forgot how Rick Riordon makes me laugh. I was laughing until my sides hurt. Those darn witty lines. He'll say something totally serious at the beginning of one sentence, then say this completely random yet relevant thing at the end of it. Can I give some examples please:

“Listen,’ Leo said. ‘Frank Zhang has moves. He’s probably gonna turn into a kangaroo and do some marsupial jujitsu on their ugly faces.”

“Coach Hedge managed another heroic belch. ‘Whose palace? And is Dalmatia where those Dalmatian dogs come from? That 101 Dalmatians movie – I still have nightmares.”

“He imagined the Fates up in Olympus, laughing at his wishful thinking: LOL, NOOB!”

“The exchange had involved a lot of yelling, death threats and high-velocity pineapples.”

Okay, okay, I want to talk about characters now. Especially two, in particular. Hey hey hey. Remember that kid, who was energetic, positive and loved mythomagic? Yeah, I barely remembered. Geez, when did Nico turn into such a grouchy couch? Okay, yeah we know when and why. And it makes a lot of sense. I actually liked that plot twist, after a while at least. It gave him more depth, and more understanding. Psst, Nico was my second, next to Percy. Okay yeah, another dream gone. Poof. But anyways, I think this was a good thing. It completely took me by surprise, but like in good way. Well at first, I was kind of mad, since you know...I love Nico.

LEO. <3 He and person-who-shall-not-be-named are the cutest thing in the world *-* Leo deserves that person. Seriously, Leo is the most best guy ever. Nice grammar there. He's funny, hilarious, hardworking, gah, just the full package man. I need me a Leo. And a Percy, THANKSS.

“I’m coming back for you, *********,’ he said to the night wind. ‘I swear it on the River Styx.” Heart is melting here. Drowning in feels.

Bob and Damasen. Can I just like cry right now. Because I'm feeling that urge. I love Bob. I think he's my new favourite character. With Percy and Nico and Leo and others... "Bob says hello" *cries*

Coach Hedge <3 I KNEW IT. THERE WAS SOMETHING FISHY GOING ON. I LOVE FISH. I love the scene where Frank goes and kills all the cow monsters. ^.^ YOU GO FRANK. His "growth spurt" hahaa. He got hotter XD

This's review is getting long. I will stop it soon. This barely covered all my thoughts. I think my thoughts are scattered around here somewhere, just gotta 'em together. *gathers thoughts* Honestly, if I wrote everything down, it would take you hours to read. Okay. So. Overall, this brought me back into the Percy Jackson frenzy mode. That's like when, I go up to someone randomly and starts spewing and gushing about HoH. And they're like wtf. lol. It made me fall in love all over again with this series. This was pure magnificence. That's a big word. A big word for a big book.

I just realized, this is the fourth book. There's going to be five books. If I'm doing my math correctly, there will be one more book, till Percy Jackson ends. Like ends. Final. Finale. Fine. Sorry, excuse me while I sob my eyes out.

review:

changed it to three stars from two stars. it really wasn't that bad, just I kinda got freaked out with the Marie Antoinette thing. since I like making lists, I'll make a list of things I liked and didn't like. that's easier to write and to read for both you and me, eh?

THINGS I LIKED (kind of)

- okay guys. this is PARIS. we are talking CITY OF LIGHT, CITY OF LOVE. *sighs* I always wished I could go to Paris, eat some crepes and drink itty bitty cups of coffee. that sounds quite the vacation right? haha no. right after I have a chance to actually go to Paris, I'm scared that there's going to be a ghost serial killer trying to murder me. sounds bright. but who cares, it's Paris, and any book set in Paris has my approval. *nods head in approval*

- did you guys know I liked history? or as we Canadians call it 'Social Studies' in school? but yeah, I like it. love it, right beside English. my favourite part of history that we've learned was the Napoleonic Era, but the French Revolution is just before that so it's cool too. we learned about Marie Antoinette and honestly, I think the book was biased by peasants I swear. the writers of the textbook were probably descendants of the peasants from the French Revolution that hated Marie Antoinette. the parts that talked about her were all "ewewew bad queen bad queen, she was one of the main troubles of Louis XVI, extravaganza drama mama (can I borrow that line from Racing Savannah? it's funny okay)" idk, stuff like that. then I went on wiki and basically Marie Antoinette was an airhead but with a good heart. she didn't know any better yah know? this book had a good portion about history so that's a thumbs up.

THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE (as much, or was like wtf)h

- you see, we had to read this short story for English at school and it was called Golden Girl. it talks about this girl who's a popular pea wannabe. she only hangs out with her "best friend" because she's popular and she thinks it'll bring her benefits like dating hot guys and other stupid stuff. but here's the thing, she actually hates her "best friend" because she's a jealous bee. she's only a cheap imitation. ugh, get out please. so you can probably see why I don't like Colette. she does stand up for herself in the end but sheesh.

- is Jules really pronounced as "Zhools"? I liked calling Jules, Jewels better. I know that Paris is the City of Love and all that crap but it's that insta-love again. "omg, lookie lookie, hot tour guide. hehe haawt. but me friends no like him cuz he's not rich 'en sexy. well imma just sneak around with him and kiss him on top of the Eiffel Tower cuz that sounds awfully romantic yeah?" yeah. no. plus he's not even in the book much, and the relationship was way underdeveloped.

- the plot could've been a good one if it was actually horror and not as much, whatever this was. if it had been a horror story, I wouldn't even look at it because I'm freaking scared af when it comes to this. there wasn't much mystery, no *gasp gasp, holy shit!* moment. and when you come to think of it! it's kind of ridiculous. if there had been more planning involved, perhaps I would like it better.

- the book as a whole, the writing was mediocre. I have a feeling her "Bad Girls Don't Die" Trilogy is much better and so is the writing. but there's no way I'm reading that, so no thank you. the sentences weren't meant  for my eyes and brain. it's not compatible with me okay? I had a hard time liking the style of writing and it seemed so very...plain. it's like, pineapple juice on whole wheat bread. does that sound good to you? if it does, sure, read this book and you might be in for a surprise.

this wasn't horrible, it really wasn't. it wasn't great either, like I hoped. but well, I read it so it's okay. if I never read it I'll never be able to say if it was worth reading. if you're into this type of stuff, be my guest. read it, try it. but otherwise, save your time. I'm sure there are better books. I'm sorry if this will disappoint anyone but, I'm not ever going to read her other books. and it's not because of this book. it's because the covers look scary and the book looks scary and me no like scary. I don't know what else to say. maybe you'll like it, maybe you won't. pineapple juice bread.

p.s. is it supposed to be Marie Antoinette on the cover? Well, damn she got some ketchup on her face.

I’ve lost it. :( The only thing in the world I wasn’t supposed to lose. My engagement ring. It’s been in Magnus’s family for three generations. And now the very same day his parents are coming, I’ve lost it. The very same day! Do not hyperventilate, Poppy. Stay positive :) !!

Poppy Wyatt has never felt luckier. She is about to marry her ideal man, Magnus Tavish, but in one afternoon her “happily ever after” begins to fall apart. Not only has she lost her engagement ring in a hotel fire drill but in the panic that follows, her phone is stolen. As she paces shakily around the lobby, she spots an abandoned phone in a trash can. Finders keepers! Now she can leave a number for the hotel to contact her when they find her ring. Perfect!

Well, perfect except that the phone’s owner, businessman Sam Roxton, doesn’t agree. He wants his phone back and doesn’t appreciate Poppy reading his messages and wading into his personal life.

What ensues is a hilarious and unpredictable turn of events as Poppy and Sam increasingly upend each other’s lives through emails and text messages. As Poppy juggles wedding preparations, mysterious phone calls, and hiding her left hand from Magnus and his parents . . . she soon realizes that she is in for the biggest surprise of her life.

Review/thoughts:

All I can say after I finished this was that it was really cute. It was pretty darn cute, sweet and funny. It's not a short book, but you can whip through it fast. A fairly easy read. If you're looking for a pass time, fluffy, cute, funny, story, consider this your lucky day because ding diNG DING, this is your perfect book. I was seriously laughing so hard at some times, and can't help but feel embarrassed by the main character. (She's awesome, by the way) Sam is just so amazing. <3 it really reminds me of this Asian drama I watched. Seriously, I could put all the people in there and match it up with the characters in this book. This is my first Sophie Kinsella book but I'm fairly sure it won't be the last. But I've had a bad time keeping promises in the past so who knows?

The Hype HYpe HYPE

Does anyone else hate this? I'm not talking just books everyone likes but books like "The  Hunger Games" and "Divergent" Like wow, seriously? Is "The Hunger Games" that good? Nope, nope not at all in my opinion. Everyone, book readers, non-book readers are all like "omg!! Hunger games is sooo good!!! omgg!!!!!" Like can you not. Every time I hear this I want to rip my ears out. WHAT makes this book so good? I'm not even kidding, there's so many books that are way better than THG and I can't stand it.

Okay imagine this. You just read this really great book, a new favourite. You cant stop gushing about it to your nerdy book friends. Then BAM, one day, it announces that its going to have a movie adaption. You're happy right? Right. The next day, everyone starts talking about this amazing book they've read and that how its turning into a movie. You realize that those people are people who never read, but they are talking favourites with your favourite book. Won't you not get at least a little mad?

Alright, maybe its my pretty possessive personality but I just cant freaking stand it. Nope. I hate sharing. Get your own food. Get your own friends. Get your own favourite book. This one belongs to me. ME.

Sorry about that rant. I just needed to get that out. I'm sincerely sorry if this offended someone, or doesn't agree. I don't expect you to agree, its only my opinion.

Synopsis from GoodReads

Review:

Okay. I admit it, I'm physic. Sort of ish... I can already tell that you think/will think since I'm mentioning this: it’s cliché. But in all honesty, it is so far from that. This book description might not have caught you're attention straight away, but trust me, it is so much more than this tiny finite book jacket could ever describe.

This story is a thriller with a side dish of romance. Legend is fast-paced action, and as I read the first line I was already intrigued. “My mother thinks I’m dead” and that was what set me off. I finished that book, and read it another 2 more times. :)

What I love about this book (and the others in the trilogy- more reviews to come) is that it’s written from both Day’s and June’s POV. I envy Marie Lu for her ability to write so well for both a guy and a girl so interchangeably! I especially like that Day is the more caring character, or at least you can tell he is (because you're in his POV). And I like that June is the one that sometimes talks harshly, and sometimes doesn't know when, or how to be kind with her actions and words. She's the one that is always stone faced, the person who shuts out her emotions so well. June's just secretive. Private. For some reason, she reminds me of a sponge. She's constantly thinking, strategizing, making plans- and when she finally comes up with a solution that she cannot give away, she just soaks that knowledge up, hides it, before it spills over and shows her secrets. Another thing: June is unlike many characters in YA books like Divergent, Obsidian, Half-Blood, etc. She's the badass (well I think so) while usually the guys are badass, and emotionless, tall, dark, handsome, older than main character... you get my message. They’re the ones who keep their "forbidden emotions" and "feelings" hidden (although none last all too long). It's not a bad thing, but just gets old. Don't you think? In any case, I like June, and how Marie Lu portrays her. June is not only smart (but of course the main character would be), and somewhat arrogant, but also a brilliant fighter. She can look after herself, that's for sure, and that's one of the things I love in a protagonist. I'm always on the look out for books with a strong heroine. ;)

Legend focuses more on the problems surrounding Day, but personally I liked June better in this novel. If you haven’t read this book already, READ IT. I am telling you, it is so totally worth your time. And once you are done that, read Prodigy, the second installment. This book was definitely an OMG.
Yours truly,
Zoe

Review: Clockwork Angel: Manga by Cassandra Clare

A manga-adaption to the prequel of Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments series, The Infernal Devices is the story of Tessa Gray, a sixteen-year-old American girl traveling alone to Victorian London who runs afoul of the city's sordid supernatural underworld. Rescued by the Shadowhunters of the London Institute, Tessa quickly finds herself caught up in an intrigue that may very well destroy her new friends - including the two enigmatic young men, Jem and Will, who have taken her under their wing...

*spoiler free*

Let me admit something, I read Clockwork Angel about, hmmm, about a year and a half ago so my memory is a little fuzzy. Maybe a little more than fuzzy. I can't remember the details and such but I still remember the more important events. And by my memory, I'm pretty sure the manga incorporated the important events into it. Of course it was shortened quite a bit, but the story line was still pretty good. But if I hadn't read Clockwork Angel before I read this, maybe I wouldn't really understand it. I'd be a bit confused.

I'm a picky manga and anime person. I like anime, but seriously, it's so hard for me to find one I like. The story might be bad, or the art isn't my type, or the guy isn't hot enough etc, I barely read manga and watch very few animes. But luckily, luckily, this was brilliant. I'm not even joking. The art is really well done, and fits my taste. It's should be made into an anime. For the Team Will out there, I'm still with you, just not here. I'm completely Team Jem. Holy peas, Jem is one smoking hot shadowhunter out there.

The manga artist really captured the characters personality and expressions well. Like really well. Oh my goodness, Henry is adorable in there. The characters are exactly how I pictured them, heck, even better. I was like, woah, Jem is quite dashing here. Hehe Jem. Jem. <3 The only person that didn't exactly meet my expectations was Magnus. He wasn't as I pictured him. As attractive Godfrey Gao is, he isn't exactly how my Magnus is either. I don't even know how I picture Magnus. Okay, okay so Will. Yeah, he's still pretty Will. The manga kept most of this sarcasm and humor which is good.

There's not much to say about this short book, but it guess if you like manga, or love Clockwork Angel make sure to pick this up. I usually avoid manga. They make my head spin. Oh my goodness, where do you look? Left? Right? Up? Down? Which one comes next? It's pretty confusing and I can't get into it, but this was alright. Besides, Jem<3

Josie Byrne's life is spiraling out of control. Her parents are divorcing, her boyfriend Nick has grown distant, and her physics teacher has it in for her. When she's betrayed by the two people she trusts most, Josie thinks things can't get worse.

Until she starts having dreams about a girl named Jo. Every night at the same time—3:59 a.m.

Jo's life is everything Josie wants: she's popular, her parents are happily married, and Nick adores her. It all seems real, but they're just dreams, right? Josie thinks so, until she wakes one night to a shadowy image of herself in the bedroom mirror – Jo.

Josie and Jo realize that they are doppelgängers living in parallel universes that overlap every twelve hours at exactly 3:59. Fascinated by Jo's perfect world, Josie jumps at the chance to jump through the portal and switch places for a day.

But Jo’s world is far from perfect. Not only is Nick not Jo's boyfriend, he hates her. Jo's mom is missing, possibly insane. And at night, shadowy creatures feed on human flesh.

By the end of the day, Josie is desperate to return to her own life. But there’s a problem: Jo has sealed the portal, trapping Josie in this dangerous world. Can she figure out a way home before it’s too late?

From master of suspense Gretchen McNeil comes a riveting and deliciously eerie story about the lives we wish we had – and how they just might kill you.

Review: (May contain spoilers)
Okay. I just finished this. I rarely write reviews right after I finish a book but this book NEEDS to have a review written right now. Because I just finished this, the emotions are still tumbling through me. I'm a mess.

Right after I read the summery of 3:59, I knew it was book I needed to read. Come on, I love parallel universe books. Josie's life sucks. Oh man, it really sucks. Her parents are divorcing, her boyfriend is a -insert cuss word-, and was just betrayed by the two people most dear in her life. Then she's turned into the laughingstock of her school. I honestly would've gone mad. After some "incident", she starts seeing another person's life at exactly 3:59 everyday. And that person is herself. In a parallel universe. Holy cannoli. The other Josie, "Jo", has the perfect life that Josie wants. Happy parents, a good relationship with her boyfriend, everything is just sunnier in her life. So when the chance comes to switch places for a day come, she snatches it. Oh boy. Turns out, Jo is an evil version of herself and has been trapped in that parallel universe.

The thing with books that involve a lot of science is that I don't understand 80% of the science terms. I have a science deprived brain. But even though I couldn't fully grasp the concepts and how the portals and quantum physics worked, I still have a pretty good idea of what was happening. Thankfully. I have read a few other parallel universe books, the latest one being "Parallel" by Lauren Miller. Amazing by the way, check it out. Maybe it was because I read that first, I found that Parallel was more developed in thinking and plot and was more realistic. This book isn't underdeveloped, obviously. You can tell much thought and research has gone into it. But I just found that Parallel made more sense, in my mind at least. Okay enough comparing with these two books.

Truth to be told, I didn't like Josie that much. I didn't dislike her, but I can't say she's my favourite female MC either. Have you watched Coraline girl? You don't just go into another universe just because they seem like they're the "same" people as you. Seriously? Wow. Well she certainly was desperate enough. Suppose your doppelgänger wasn't like, evil, but what if something happened to the portal, something happened to the connectivity of your two worlds, and you're stuck there? No, you didn't think of that, since that's exactly what happened. Your evil twin outsmarted you. (okay, she's not actually "evil", nor is she her "twin") Other than that, and her desperation to get back with her boyfriend and sulking, she was okay. I saw the romance coming from a mile away. Though I wasn't sure how I felt about it, since (SPOILERS) Nick cheated on her in her own world. It was like, oh yeah, even though my boyfriend cheated on me, but I love him too much so I still love him *\(^o^)/* But then it finally dawned to me near the end that this was the parallel universe Nick. Not the douchebag Nick from her own universe. From then on I was all, WOOTWOOT.

Fast paced, page turning, PLOT TWISTING, oh my god, I don't even want to mention how many times that occurred. But it was good, predictable books aren't as fun. I definitely recommend it. Go. Read it. NOW. The reason I didn't give it five stars is because I compared it to Parallel. In my opinion, it was a slight better, but this is interesting enough too. It deserves your time.

P.S. THE ENDING. GAAAAAAAAAHHHH.

TBR Pile of October

So many books...so little time...that's like the truest quote ever. EVER. Anyways, since school started there's been less times to read, but I'm squeezing every single opportunity I can! There's a bunch of books I want to read for October, both from the library, and from my own bookshelf. Below are a list of books that I want to read for this month. There's going to be a few that I probably end up not reading, or some books that'll be added to this pile along the month.

1. The Golden Lily by Richelle Mead
I'm actually already starting it, but I I'll go into October reading it XD Loving this is far, I miss Rose but Sydney is awesome too and this is a great spin-off of Vampire Academy.

2. The Indigo Spell by Richelle Mead
Come on, you expect me not to read this after The Golden Lily? Heck yah I am! Getting ready for The Fiery Heart. Then I'll have to wait a whole year for the next book. The horror. THE HORROR.

3. Dash and Lily's Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan
I've been putting this off for a whole now, but I'm still determined to read it. The cover is so pretty and I've got a good feeling about this book. I trust my guts.

4. Nick and Norah's Infinate Playlist by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan
This was sitting right next to Dash and Lily's Book of Dares, so why the heck not. I can guarantee you there's going to be a review for this book. YESH.

5. The Diviners by Libba Bray
This is such a heavy and big book omg. The cover is alluring and the size of the book makes me feel smart. No, seriously. I like reading big books. Plus, Libba Bray seems to be a great author.

6. Ink by Amanda Sun
Oh, gosh. I've been waiting for this book for SO long. Finally it's in my hands. Seriosuly, the plot sounds so interesting, it's like those books you can't can not read. Double negative there.

7. The Boyfriend List by E. Lockhart
Every girl needs a break from post apocalyptic corrupt worlds with zombies, so what's better than this short chick lit book?

8. Wild Awake by Hilary Smith
Again, I've had my eye on this for so long. So long, so long. I HAVE FINALLY GOTTEN AHOLD OF IT. I have another good feeling about this book. Trusting my guts XD

9. Hourglass by Myra EcEntire
This cover is like perfection yo. It looks so cool. I believe it will become a new favourite of mine. I've had some doubts whether to read this book or not, but I decided I should.

10. That Summer by Sarah Dessen
Im not the biggest, bestest fan if Sarah Dessen, but I did enjoy her books I read, so I still decided to read this. I love summer books. I'm actually quite excited to read this.

11. Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Mass
There's this need toward to this book to be read. It demands to be read. It begs to be read. Come on, I can't ignore the pleas of this book. I just can't.

That's it! Well that's my confirmed list for now. It's not a lot, but I can guarantee you that there's gonna be a lot of other books added during the month. I don't follow the rules. Heck, I don't even follow my own rules. XD Comment which books you want or planning to read during October!

Review: Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by April GenevieveTucholke

Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea

You stop fearing the devil when you’re holding his hand…

Nothing much exciting rolls through Violet White’s sleepy, seaside town… until River West comes along. River rents the guest house behind Violet’s crumbling estate, and as eerie, grim things start to happen, Violet begins to wonder about the boy living in her backyard.

Is River just a crooked-smiling liar with pretty eyes and a mysterious past? Or could he be something more?

Violet’s grandmother always warned her about the Devil, but she never said he could be a dark-haired boy who takes naps in the sun, who likes coffee, who kisses you in a cemetery... who makes you want to kiss back.

Violet’s already so knee-deep in love, she can’t see straight. And that’s just how River likes it.

Blending faded decadence and the thrilling dread of gothic horror, April Genevieve Tucholke weaves a dreamy, twisting contemporary romance, as gorgeously told as it is terrifying—a debut to watch.

(SPOILERS)

I  need to question my morals after reading this. Geez, fallen angels? Fine. But now the DEVIL. *sighs* There are many times in this book that I would give this book three stars to, then four stars, but in the end, it deserves five stars. Because its just that good.

Don't we all love ourselves some bad boys. Heheh. River West is just that. Dark, mysterious, alluring and hot, what kind of girl would not fall for that. The beginning was kind of slow, we didn't know what was going on exactly. We have our suspicions but nothings true. I didn't like any characters in the beginning either. Luke was an egotistic jerk, Sunshine was shallow. Nothing too interesting. It changes throughout the book though, and I ended up liking them a lot. Despite Luke's attitude and appearance, he really cared about Violet. Sunshine changed too, for the better.

This book is like origami. Haha origami. Coincidence? You don't know what's happening, when you just start to fold the paper. You can't tell what the result is. Sometimes, it will look like something, then a few more folds then something's else. You can't truly predict the ending. But when the folding is done, the product is amazing. It had to go through all those steps for the finish. And that's exactly what this book was like.

I didn't know how to feel about this book when reading it. Sure, it was interesting, but there's so many places I was confused, lost and frustrated about. For example, was River really the devil? Obviously not. The Devil was just a metaphor in this case. I think. Geez. At times, I really couldn't place my feeling for River. He's sweet one moment, then he's off causing trouble. Bad trouble. You really don't know what is going on with him. The author made him seem like the bad guy, then the good guy...? You just never know. Then along comes a brother. And another one. I love Neelly. He's so cute :) He and River's relationship was really nice, knowing that even your brother has problems but staying by his side throughout it all. That's real man, that's hard. Brodie. That piece of shit. (sorry for my language...) He's seriously twisted.

I kept feeling there was going to be a love triangle, with Neelly, Gianni, but turns out, there's just Violet and River. Maybe, something will develop in the next book. REAAAAAAD THIS. At times, you'll feel unsettling, but trust me, it's worth it. The ups and downs of this wild roller coaster ride. Awesome. It was creepy, twisted, kind of scary (not really, just creepy) but so, so good.

Blog Tour Stop: The Summer of Me & You by Rae Hachton

The Summer of Me & You by Rae Hachton
Published by Teen Pulse

Release Date: September 19, 2013
Source: ARC was provided for tour purposes
Summery:
This is the summer of first love. The summer of magic. The Summer of Me and You. Kaleb has loved Kayleigh ever since first grade, even if he's never admitted it to anyone. Not even himself. But this summer, that's about to change.
Kaleb's had a troubled past, and Kayleigh's life has always been perfect. He'd love nothing more than to be the guy who ruins it all, and make her fall for him against her mother's wishes.
Kayleigh is a complete nerd. She's got the glasses to prove it. She just knows that a guy like Kaleb would never really want to be with a girl like her. So she's going to avoid him at all costs.
But then why do they always end up hanging out together?
When a secret that both their parents kept from them comes out, it will define the true meaning of love. But when this summer ends, will Kaleb and Kayleigh have to say goodbye, or is this just the beginning of many more summers to come?

I'm having a hard time trying to write this review guys. Mostly because there's so many feels going through me right now. It was really sweet, sometimes frustrating, basically an emotional roller coaster. I've now gotten off and don't know how to feel. The premise was really entrancing, which made me grab interest in this book. Summer with two childhood unprofessed love? Yes please! It really did not disappoint. Though at times I wanted to tear my hair out.

Kayleigh and Kaleb. Kaleb and Kayleigh. Has a ring to it. Kaleb has had a crush on Kayleigh since grade one, when she stole everyones blue crayons and gave it to him. Kayleigh likes Kaleb too, though she thinks that someone like Kaleb won't ever like a complete nerd like her. Misunderstandings, misunderstandings...asdfghjkl. At times, I really couldn't understand why they had to be so uncivil towards one another. They both know how one another felt about each other, yet they wouldn't take initiative and just tried to stay away from each other. What is this. I understand the reason why, but still.
Let's talk about characters, shall we? My favourite character in here was probably Kaleb's mom. She herself was like a teenager. My least favourite here is...Kayleigh's mom. We know her reasons, blah blah blah but she was still a biatch about it and was so mean. Seriously, she took too far sometimes. Finally, we get to the MCs. Kaleb has some "issues" which was sometimes a bit unpleasant. Especially when he and Kayleigh fought, it hurt to read. Of course they make up after though. Deep down, Kaleb is still a very caring and sweet person, and that's all I care about. I felt so bad about him for prom. Just ask the girl, son. I actually really like Kayleigh. With her Bud Holly glasses and all. She was strong and quick mouthed, which I am not. It sucks for her to have such a harsh mother. I loved it when her mom told her to not see the boy, she's grounded, yadda yadda and the next thing she does is go out and see him. GOOD FOR YOU.

I loved reading the parts where the went on their date and the ending part when they did all those things together. Sigh, it makes my heart cringe knowing that there will never be something like that in my life *sad face* Honestly, it was so cute. The carnivals, cotten candy, *-* The ending was just speechless, well it left me at that. I was just awwing the whole time. <3

Overall, I really did enjoy this book. There were its ups and downs, but hey in the end, we got our happy ending and I loved it.

4.5/5 stars

Rae Hachton writes Dark Romanticism-sometimes with gears and clockwork. Has cemetery obsession. Misses Victorian London and ancient Rome. Believes in vampires and magic. If imaginary, she would be an automaton fairy. Corvidophile. Content.

One of my favourite quotes :)
